San Juan, Batangas - DENR CENRO Lipa City, spearheaded by OIC-CENR Officer Allan WiIlard M. Estillore and the staff and personnel of Conservation and Development Section (CDS) participated in the launching of Mangrove Planting Activity in Brgy. Laiya Aplaya, San Juan, Batangas which is a joint initiative of estate developers Landco Pacific Corporation and Playa Laiya Corporation, as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The activity kicked-off a week-long mangrove planting in Laiya River that was attended by 28 participants from the two private entities, Local Government Unit (LGU) of San Juan and Brgy, Laiya Aplaya, DENR CENRO Lipa and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) which was held last September 28, 2021. 

In his message during the opening program, CENRO Estillore expressed appreciation to the Local Government of San Juan, the local community and to the different private entities such as the Landco and Playa Laiya Corporation for coming up with timely environmental initiatives which are aligned to and in support of the program and campaign of the DENR to conserve and protect the environment and its natural resources. The participants were also briefed on the importance of mangrove forest to the coastal ecosystems, providing habitat to various species, stabilizing the shoreline, preventing erosion and protecting coastal communities from disaster due to strong waves and storm surge. Moreover, MENRO Noelito Pasco of San Juan demonstrated the proper planting of mangroves. 

A total of 250 mangrove species of Busain (Brugeria cylindrica) were planted along the estuary of Laiya River as part of the corporations’ Mangrove Restoration Project, which is aimed to plant 3, 000 mangrove species for five days from September 28 to October 2, 2021. 

Afterwards, a meeting transpired between Playa Laiya Corporation through its Vice President, Mr. Neil Siy and CENRO Lipa to explore the possibility of forging a partnership through a memorandum of agreement for the adoption of the said mangrove area to ensure that the project will be sustainable, as well as other forest area in the upland portion of San Juan, Batangas. The parties also discussed the resumption of the joint titling activity of CENRO Lipa and Playa Laiya Corporation that will cover the parcels of residential lot donated by the entity within the resettlement area in the barangay which was established for the benefit of the relocated residents who were affected by the development being undertaken in the properties of Playa Laiya. ###

SATURDAY, 18 September 2021, Rotary Club of Makati Rockwell planted indigenous seedlings at Sitio San Ysiro, Brgy. San Jose, Antipolo City

Participated by President and Executive Director Elynn N. Gorra of Rockwell Makati and forty-nine (49) active members of Rotary Club and in partnership with Malayang Samahan ng Magsasaka sa Antipolo (MASAKA) represented by PO Chairman Jimmy Garcia, they were able to plant 1,900 seedlings: Narra (1,300), Calumpang (200) Banaba (300), and Cacao (200).

Present also to the event are Roy Gulane and Dexter Villa from DENR Central Strategic Alliance and Environmental Partnership Division under Strategic Communication and Initiatives Service (SCIS, and Robert Hipolito representative for National Greening Program of PENRO Rizal.

The tree growing program was first initiated by the club in 2010 along South Luzon Express Way (SLEX) until the year 2014.

In 2015-2019, they moved their planting site at the Upper Marikina River Basin Protected Landscape (UMRBPL) through a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with DENR CALABARZON field office, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office in Rizal. Within five (5) years, they planted 3,500 indigenous seedlings at seven (7) hectares designated National Greening Program (NGP) graduated plantation site at So. San Ysiro. 

A year later, additional 2,000 indigenous seedlings were planted in four (4) hectares of designated new fifteen (15) hectares development sites in September 2020 for which they continue to do so this year for another MOA.

The Rotary Club of Makati Rockwell is one of the biggest partners of PENRO Rizal in the protection, restoration, and development of the UMRPBL. ###

Sa pagdiriwang ng World Bamboo Day 2021 na may temang “Alay ng Bayan sa Inang Kalikasan, Kawayan”, ang DENR CENRO Calaca ay nakilahok sa sabay sabay na malawakang pagtatanim ng kawayan sa buong mundo ngayong araw ng Biyernes ika-18 ng Setyembre 2021 sa Brgy. Toong Tuy Batangas.

Ang nasabing aktibidad ay nilahukan ng mga kawani ng Conservation and Development Section ng CENRO Calaca, mga miyembro ng Toong Planters Association Peoples Organization at mga emplayado ng SEM Calaca Power Corporation at South Luzon Power Generation Corporation na mga boluntaryo mula sa pribadong sector.

Bago ang pagtatanim ay isinasagawa ang isang IEC lecture na binibigyang diin ang kahalagahan at mga benepisyo na maaaring makuha mula sa mga kawayan at ilang impormasyon tungkol sa adbokasiya ng DENR na kung saan ang kawayan ay ginagamit sa pag rehabilita ng mga nasirang kagubatan. Gayundin ay 30 pirasong mga ng IEC materials ukol sa “Paraan ng Pagpaparami ng Kawayan” ang ipinamahagi sa lahat ng mga kalahok.

Ang DENR CENRO Calaca ay naglalayong makapagtanim 20,400 piraso ng kawayan sa 100 hektaryang NGP Plantation sa Brgy toong, Tuy Batangas bago matapos ang taong 2021.

Ang mga hakbang sa kalusugan at kaligtasan laban sa COVID-19 ay maayos na naobserbahan at naisagawa sa pagsagawa aktibidad. ###

The DENR CENRO Lipa through the Manila Bay Site Coordinating Management Office (MBSCMO) - Batangas conducted river clean-up activity along San Juan River, Sto. Tomas City, Batangas on September 17, 2021 and participated in the coastal clean-up activity along the coastline of Anilao Port, Mabini, Batangas on September 18, 2021 through the Conservation and Development Section. The clean-up activities were conducted in support and observance of the 2021 International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day and in continuation to the adherence to the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030) with the message, “The Science We Need for the Ocean We Want” and with the theme “Understand and Beat Marine Pollution”.

Highlighted during the program on September 17, 2021, are the activities and projects being done for the rehabilitation of San Juan River are to complement the efforts for the Manila Bay Rehabilitation. Taking full advantage of the activity, the functions of the DENR specifically in forest land use planning, environmental law enforcement, free patents and land titling, and permit issuances were discoursed. An Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign about the celebration of International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day and proper Solid Waste Management, as well as brief discussion on how to fill out the Volunteer Ocean Trash Data Form was also conversed

River clean-up activity was participated by representatives from Brgy. San Vicente, Sto. Tomas City and Tigrilios Guardians of Truth International Inc. (TGTII)- Masigasig Lumina Chapter. Fifty sacks of non-biodegradable and residual wastes weighing approximately 750 kilograms were collected in the 200 meters stretch in both sides of the portion of San Juan River.

Coastal clean-up activity in Mabini, Batangas was participated by volunteers and representatives from Philippine National Police (PNP)-Mabini, Soroptimist International-Mabini Chapter, Joint Commission International (JCI), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and staff from Municipal Tourism Office and Municipal Agriculture Office. The activity was undertaken along the coastline of Anilao Port and trash collected weighed approximately 20.25 kilograms were collected on the area which were mainly composed of food wrappers, plastic bags, fishing lines and foams. Underwater clean-up or SCUBAsurero was conducted in Secret Garden Dive Site located in Brgy. Mainit, Mabini, Batangas and was participated by volunteer divers. They were able to collect an approximate 300 kilograms of trash composed mainly of cloths, sacks, fishing lines, plastic bags and food wrappers.

The said clean-up activities aimed to address the effects of water pollution to health and sanitation and to strengthen the existing DENR partnership with the different agencies and organizations for the effective implementation and enforcement of environmental laws and policies for the rehabilitation of the San Juan River and for the conservation of coastal and marine resources.

In celebration of International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) 2021 with the theme “Understand and Beat Marine Pollution”, CENRO Calaca conducted coastal clean-up in three (3) barangays in Calaca, Batangas on September 18, 2021.

The activity was participate by selected personnel of CENRO Calaca, representatives from Calaca MENR Office, barangay officials and residents of three (3) barangays in Calaca specifically Brgy. Putting Bato West, Quizumbing and Sinisian. Considering operational limitations due to government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and to properly observe the health and safety protocols, the cleanups were conducted in small groups wherein each barangay is only limited to 10 participants and only those fully vaccinated two (2) weeks prior to the activity joined the activity.

The program was conducted in Sitio Kababalo, Brgy Puting Bato West, Calaca Batangas. It started with the registration of the participants and short a program. The prayer was led by a representative from the BHW followed by a message from the representative of the MENR Office of Calaca, as he acknowledged all the participants for participating/ joining the event.

This was further followed an IEC lecture that was conducted by For. Karen Sotomango Forest Technician I/Information Officer. She explained the origin of the International Coastal clean-up and how it became the largest volunteer activity and she mentioned the purpose of the activity which aims to engaged the people around the world to remove trash and debris from beach and waterways. She also discussed the theme “Understand and Beat Marine Pollution”, concerning to the large number of plastic wastes being thrown to the ocean resulting to threats to marine animals such as pawikan. Before the clean -up starts, she discussed the using "Clean Swell" application to be used  for data collection.

Most of the trash collected were plastic bottles, plastic sachets and diapers. 10 sacks of trash were collected in Sition Kababalo Brgy. Putting Bato West, 10 sacks in Brgy Quizumbing and 30 sacks id Brgy. Sinisian. A total of 50 sacks were collected in 3 kilometers shoreline in Calaca, Batangas. These was picked-up by the Calaca LGU dump truck for proper waste disposal. ###
