Last 2021, the DENR CENRO Calauag, Quezon proposed the 588-hectare portion of the graduated 1,395-hectare NGP CY 2013 Timber Plantation in Barangay Bagong Silang, Tagkawayan, Quezon, as a site for enhancement planting.

The subject plantation site has finished its 3-year financial provision under the NGP since the site was established in 2013. The aforesaid budget had supported relevant activities under NGP, such as, but not limited to, the procurement of seedlings; Survey Mapping and Planning (SMP) activities; Plantation Development Plan preparation; and maintenance and protection activities.

Meanwhile, through the unified efforts of the the AKAY Upland Farmers’ Association, Inc, members and officers of the newly-created People’s Organization in Barangay Bagong Silang under Community-Based Forest Management Agreement (CBFMA), the said community manages to effectively implement this enhancement planting project in the barangay under the Family Approach Strategy.

The Family Approach Strategy, as stipulated under Technical Bulletin No. 30 of the Forest Management Bureau, addresses the involvement of Filipino families in the implementation of NGP in the development and rehabilitation of the qualified lands. It is the latest approach of the DENR to rehabilitate the denuded and degraded portions of our forests while providing livelihood to the upland communities that reside within and adjacent the forestlands.

Aside from the aforesaid timber plantation in Barangay Bagong Silang, other graduated NGP plantations that are also subjected by CENRO Calauag in its enhancement planting projects are some portions of the 100-hectare Other Fruit Trees Plantation in Guinayangan, Quezon; and 100-hectare Bamboo Plantation along Kinatakutan River, and 318-hectare Mangrove Plantations in Brgys. Laurel, Katimo, and Seguiwan, all located in Tagkawayan, Quezon.
