Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Tayabas is currently conducting the Survey and Registration of Protected Area Occupants (SRPAO) in Quezon Protected Landscape (QPL). The survey began in September in the municipalities of Pagbilao, Padre Burgos, and Atimonan, Quezon. 134 out of 236 households were already interviewed. The survey shall commence until the end of the year.

The CENRO Tayabas hired additional enumerators to ensure that the survey will be concluded the soonest possible time. A team was also created to lead the survey with the protected area occupants. The SRPAO hopes to establish the list of tenured migrants and to determine the location, boundaries, and extent of their occupied areas. Included also in this activity is the identification of natural resources used by the occupants.

The enumerators together with the technical staff of CENRO Tayabas were oriented. During the orientation, Forester Irene Z. Arquilita, Chief of Conservation and Development Section (CDS), and Forester Nerolyn V. Moreno, Ecosystem Management Specialist I of the said Agency, lectured regarding the DENR Administrative Order No. 2013-20 dated August 2013 or the Revised Guidelines on the SRPAO. The DAO states that SRPAO shall be conducted in protected areas to provide the basis for the recognition of tenured migrants. The result of the SRPAO shall be input to the planning for zoning and management of the protected area. The data will serve as a baseline in monitoring protected area occupation and financing mechanisms.

Mr. Luigi C. Borlagdan, Technical Staff assigned at QPL and Forester Moreno taught and guided the participants on proper handling of instruments, to be used for the recording, for easy identification of the occupants and boundaries of QPL. ###
