By virtue of House Resolution No. 197 series of 2019 declaring September as the Philippine Bamboo Month along with the observance of the World Bamboo Day 2021 with this year’s theme “Alay ng Bayan sa Inang Kalikasan, Kawayan”, PENRO Cavite planted a total of one hundred (100) bamboo culms of Kawayang tinik within an approximate area of 5,000 sq.m riverbank of Cañas River located at Ciudad Adelina Subdivision, Barangay Conchu, Trece Martires City, Cavite on September 17, 2021 (Friday).

The bamboo planting activity was led by PENRO Cavite headed by Forester Januel R. Peras with the assistance of Production Forest Management Unit (PFMU), Youth and Senior/PWD Desk Officers, and PENRO Information Officer. It was participated-in by fifty (50) volunteers comprised of twenty-six (26) males and twenty-four (24) females from Barangay Conchu, Home Owners Association (HOA) of Ciudad Adelina together with the youth and senior citizen sector of the subject community, and PENRO Cavite personnel.

During the program, Barangay Conchu Chairperson - Irene Aure pledged their full support in PENRO Cavite’s environmental activities such as the bamboo planting and other programs towards environmental protection and conservation.

Furthermore, PENRO Peras emphasized the value and importance of bamboo planting as well as the different products that can be derived from bamboo for possible livelihood. He made mentioned that “Isa sa mga pangunahing tulong ng mga kawayan ay Soil Stabilization – na kung saan pinananatili nito ang katatagan ng lupa.”

Technical Services Division Chief, Reynaldo A. Belen also extended his gratitude to all the volunteers who exerted their time just to be part of this endeavor and encouraged the public to take action and be part of the solution contributory to environmental protection and conservation. ###
