In observance of the World Wildlife Day with a theme “Forest and Livelihood: Sustaining People and Planet”, PENRO Cavite personnel in coordination with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Ternate steered the clean-up activity along the roadside going to Mts. Palay-Palay-Mataas-na-Gulod Protected Landscape (MPPMNGPL) in Ternate-Maragondon, Cavite on March 03, 2021.

The clean-up activity was led by PENRO Ronita A. Unlayao together with Chief, MSD Susan L. Del Rosario and Chief, TSD Reynaldo A. Belen. It aims to clean the habitat of wildlife along the road approximately 5 kilometers from Puerto Azul going to MPPMNGPL. A total of sixty nine (69) sacks of non-biodegradable wastes were collected during the clean-up composed of PET bottles, plastic wrappers, and facemasks. Waste collected were hauled by Ternate Municipal Garbage collector.

In commemoration of Women’s Month celebration with a theme “Women Can Make Change Amidst Climate Crisis and Covid-19” and as frontliners of environmental protection and conservation, all women employees of PENRO Cavite joined the said activity together with selected unit/section/division heads of the Office. They wore purple shirt as a symbolic color in honoring the extraordinary role of women in the society as leaders and forerunners of change.

After the clean-up activity, the participants actively joined the Zumba dance as an act of practicing health and wellness habits to attain a better physical and mental health.

During the informal program, PENRO Ronita Unlayao stressed that illegal waste dumping and littering are prohibited under RA 9003 known as “Ecological Solid Waste Management Act 2020”. Hence, we need to continuously inform the public to avoid littering especially when entering a biodiversity-rich area and to always practice WASTE SEGREGATION wherever we are.
