PENRO Cavite, in adherence to Republic Act 11058 or the Act Strengthening Occupational Safety and Health, conducted a comprehensive orientation and drill on earthquake preparedness for its office personnel, in collaboration with the Cavite Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).

The said activity aimed to equip the participants with essential knowledge on the readiness protocols during disasters. The orientation covered essential aspects of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, focusing on Prevention and Mitigation, Preparedness, and Response.

Mr. Marlon M. Mercado of PDRRMO led the discussion, emphasizing the significance of proactive measures in earthquake preparedness. The topics included the importance of regular drills and simulations to familiarize the population with response protocols, especially in anticipation of a potential "Big One'' earthquake disaster. He highlighted the importance of avoiding panic-inducing statements and instead focusing on personal preparedness and community resilience.

Guided by the procedures shared by Mr. Mercado, a drill was subsequently conducted, covering alarm, response, evacuation, headcount, and evaluation phases. Feedback from PDRRMO personnel emphasized the need for improvements in the Evacuation Phase, particularly on the use of protective headgear to mitigate potential injuries.

Looking ahead, PENRO Cavite opts to hold one of the National Simultaneous Earthquake Drills this year, offering opportunities for more intensive mock simulations and further enhancing disaster resilience within the community.###
