Calamba City, Laguna - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) CALABARZON) signed another set of Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Transport (DOTr) regarding the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) Project and the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line-4.

The NSCR is a 147-km railway project that shall connect Clark, Pampanga and Calamba, Laguna. The MRT Line-4 Project, on the other hand, is a 13.4-km railway that shall traverse Taytay, Rizal to EDSA-Ortigas. Both projects aim to help to accelerate the travel between various municipalities and to generate employment opportunities.

Through this MOA, a faster and clearer coordination among various stakeholders and National Government Agencies shall help in accelerating the completion of these railway projects.

“The signing of these agreements demonstrates the active collaboration between government agencies towards a common goal”, said DOTr Assistant Secretary for Railways, Jorjette B. Aquino.

As stipulated in the MOA, the DENR CALABARZON and Region V shall establish a DOT/PNR Lane to facilitate and ensure delivery of efficient service. DENR CALABARZON Regional Executive Director Nilo B. Tamoria expressed his willingness and gratitude to be part of this initiative. “These collaborations shall provide easier accessibility for the transport of people and commodities within the Region”, he added.

The momentous signing was also attended by DOTr Secretary Jaime J. Bautista, DOTr Undersecretary for Railways Cesar B. Chavez, Philippine National Railways (PNR) General Manager Jeremy S. Regino, DENR Region V Assistant Regional Director for Management Services Grace L. Cariño, DENR CALABARZON Laguna PENR Officer Eriberto B. Saños, Rizal PENR Officer Ramil Limpiada, contractor for the projects, and several representatives from various government agencies and other stakeholders.

Relative to this, the DENR CALABARZON has already signed a MOA with DOTr and PNR for the South Long Haul Project (SLHP) last March 6, 2023, whereby a 380.38-km of railway system, comprising 22 stations from Calamba, Laguna to Daraga, Albay shall be constructed. ###
