Quezon Province - The Municipalities of San Andres and Gumaca, Quezon entered into separate agreements with DENR CALABARZON for the joint implementation and formulation of the Forest Land Use Plan (FLUP) respectively.
 
Regional Executive Director Nilo B. Tamoria said “Mula bundok hanggang ilalim ng dagat, kung masama po ang ginagawa natin sa tuktok ay makikita rin ang epekto sa ilalim ng dagat”. He also emphasized that if these natural resources are being managed well, these can be passed onto future generations. “Ang may mahusay na roadmap at mahusay na plano, ay isa nang mahalagang hakbang”, he added.
 
The DENR-DILG Joint Memorandum Circular No. 98-01, Section 1.3, “Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) and Forest Land Use Plan (FLUP) are important tools in holistic and efficient management of forest resources. The DENR and LGUs together with other government agencies shall undertake forest land use planning as an integral activity of comprehensive land use planning to determine the optimum and balanced use of natural resources to support local, regional, and national growth and development.”
 
Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer of Quezon Ramil Limpiada shared that initial assessment activities conducted by the field office showed potential complementing projects.
San Andres, Quezon has a total open access area of 5,366.93 hectares out of the total land area of the municipality which is 17, 655.20 hectares or about 30% of its total land area which will be the subject of the Forest Land Use Plan, and a total of forest land of 5,895.74 hectares. Meanwhile, the Municipality of Gumaca has an open access area of more than 237 hectares and a total forest land of more than 872.7 hectares, with a total land area of 19,961.538 hectares. The FLUP will provide a holistic conservation approach for sustainable management and development.
 
The Local Chief Executive of San Andres, Mayor Giovanne “Vanni” T. Lim acknowledges the role of DENR in providing technical assistance. He is looking at this collaboration as a boost to their tourism potential.
 
For the Municipality of Gumaca, water supply is a serious concern. Mayor Webster D. Letargo acknowledges the importance of conservation of forest land to address this concern, which is why he is also very keen on taking an active role in the forest land use planning process.
 
This year, DENR CALABARZON is targeting nine (9) municipalities for Forest Land Use Planning formulation and six (6) for adoption. For the year 2022, twenty-six (26) more municipalities are to be developed. DENR CALABARZON encourages LGUs interested in formulating their FLUP, to coordinate with the nearest DENR Office.
