Los Baños, Laguna – In observance of the 56th ASEAN Month, PENRO Laguna released a Memorandum dated August 3, 2023 entitled “Adoption of ASEAN Mondays” encouraging all employees to wear ASEAN costumes during flag raising ceremony for the month of August to further promote and heighten awareness of the ASEAN.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by the Founding Fathers of ASEAN: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Brunei Darussalam joined ASEAN on 7 January 1984, followed by Viet Nam on 28 July 1995, Lao PDR and Myanmar on 23 July 1997, and Cambodia on 30 April 1999, making up what is today the ten Member States of ASEAN.

Proclamation No. 282 dated July 31, 2017(Amending Proclamation 1008 dated May 21, 1997) declares August of every year as ASEAN Month and Civil Service Commission Memorandum Circular No. 013 dated July 8, 2019, enjoins all government agency heads to include the singing of the ASEAN Anthem and sharing of information on ASEAN in all flag-raising ceremonies within August of every year beginning 2019. These issuances ensure to instill in the minds of the Filipino people the importance, value and meaning of the ASEAN in achieving and maintaining regional peace and sustainable development.###
