SAN FRANCISCO, QUEZON- CENRO Catanauan, Quezon offers free seedlings to the community of San Francisco, Quezon in celebration of International Day of Climate Action and Year of the Protected Areas (YoPA) on October 25, 2022 at the Barangay Hall of Brgy. Cawayan II, San Francisco, Quezon.

The activity started with a short program and brief discussion about Climate Change and its mitigation. Different AVPs on the current state of our environment were played to inform the participants the importance of conserving and protecting the remaining natural resources for the future generations. Similarly, the general information about Mulanay Watershed Forest Reserve (MWFR), projects, programs, and activities that are being implemented therein were also tackled by the PAMO staff. A photo booth and PA gallery was set-up to raise the awareness of the youth in San Francisco, Quezon on the urgent need to protect and conserve the remaining protected areas in the country especially the MWFR which is located in the municipality of San Francisco, Quezon. 

MWFR is one of the sources of water for domestic and agricultural use. It also serves as home of various flora and fauna wherein some of them are considered as endangered and vulnerable. In addition, OIC CENRO Ramil Gutierrez emphasized the role of youth in conserving the remaining natural resources and the rights of the future generation to enjoy a clean and healthy environment in a sustainable manner.

Moreover, 150 IEC materials were produced and distributed to the participants depicting wildlife that can be found within Alibijaban Wilderness Area (AWA), Buenavista Protected Landscape (BPL), and Mulanay Watershed Forest Reserve (MWFR). 

About 1,000 assorted fruit bearing and indigenous seedlings were disseminated to the communities and students within Brgy. Cawayan II. The community pantree aims to encourage and to involve the public and stakeholders in climate change mitigation and promoting a clean and healthy environment. Said activity was participated by the Sangguniang Barangay of Brgy. Cawayan II, San Francisco, Quezon, students and faculty of Cawayan II Elementary School, San Francisco Parochial Academy, and Marcial B. Villanueva National High School. The students were expected to help the government in addressing climate change.

Lastly, the participants created a tree of commitment wherein they affix their thumb mark to signify their support in the conservation and protection of our environment and natural resources. ###
