The DENR-CENRO Calauag has accommodated the DENR-Central Office on 16 October 2022 during their conduct of field validation of the completed and on-going projects in Region 4A (CALABARZON), of which the Badoy Cave in Brgy. Ponon, Atimonan, Quezon has been reviewed and evaluated based on the accomplishment submitted by the region as of September 2022.

The latter was conducted in order to verify the accuracy of the reported accomplishments and to know the current status of the implementation of programs and projects for CY 2022.

Project Evaluation Officers, Marjori Manipol and Juan Miguel Villanueva of the DENR-Central Office, outlined some questions pertaining to Badoy Cave. Included are the accuracy of the actual implementation of activities based on the submitted Cave Management Plan of Badoy Cave, such as conduct of monitoring, layout and installation of signages, and progress on the tripartite Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between DENR-LGU-landowners.

Personnel from CENRO Calauag, FT I Maria Carel Eloisa Talusit (Caves and Wetlands Focal Person) and FT II John Michael; PENRO Quezon, EMS I Hernan Merillo and Mark Mijares; and DENR Region 4A, Statistician II Leonardo Arcenal and PEO I Karen Carandang, have assisted the DENR-Central Office during their visit.

Badoy Cave is classified as Class II cave due to hazardous conditions in some portions of the cave system and presence of exotic cave formations. Its cave system is generally semi-wet with descending passages, tight, muddy crawl ways and hazardous portions like vertical crevices. The cave has closed sections for caving, and portions that can be opened to experienced cavers and guided educational tours or visits.
