One hundred (100) Grade-7 students of Ternate Integrated National High School (TINHS) took part in the launching of Pinas: The Basura Buster Mascot and Mobile Game Application in the Province of Cavite on 19 September 2022.

The event was facilitated by DENR PENRO Cavite headed by Cavite PENR Officer Januel R. Peras through its Information Officers and Youth for Environment in School Organizations (YES-O) Focals.

“A simple way of putting a plastic wrapper in its appropriate trash can make a tremendous difference if it will be done as well by many”, PENRO Peras said as he emphasized the role of the youth to help curb the increase of waste generation in the community.

The launching was participated by other government agencies, private entities, local government units, media partners, students and teachers of TINHS. Environmental Management Bureau represented by Ms. Corazon Gasapos together with Mr. Adan Umipig; Commodore Noemi Alvaran from the ICC Philippines and PCG Auxiliary; The Orchard Golf and Country Club represented by Ms. Kate Anne Baluyot; principal of TINHS Dr. Joie Buendia; and UNTV were also present during the activity.

The activity primarily aims to encourage public participation in addressing issues on solid waste management and specifically tap stakeholders such as LGUs, Academe and Youth to become advocates for the environment. It is also a call to action for a changed behavior towards a cleaner environment.

With the advent of new media and increasing dependency on the usage of mobile devices, one of the highlights of the event was the launching of Pinas: The Basura Buster game application. The game intends to teach the kids at an early age on proper waste segregation through this interactive gameplay. This initiative hopes to raise the environmental awareness of the youth and to start revolutionizing the behavior of the community on waste management.
