The Rizal Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) celebrated the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) with a theme “Fighting for Trash Free Seas – Pilipinas: Ending the flow of the Trash at the source” by conducting a clean-up activity at Taytay River, Sitio Kalikuan, Brgy. Sta. Ana, Taytay, Rizal led by the Focal Person for Manila Bay Site Coordinating and Management Office (MBSCMO), Engr. Marilyn B. Paunil.

The activity aimed to lessen the wastes in seas and rivers through a clean-up initiative and raise awareness to the public, especially to the community living near bodies of water, regarding the significance of maintaining the cleanliness of our waters. More specifically, the activity has a goal of reducing plastic pollution in rivers since the said waste can stream down to the ocean and severely affect marine life.

A total of 130 sacks that weigh approximately 1,560 kilogram of wastes were collected from the said activity comprising 480 kg of biodegradable wastes, 960 kilograms non-biodegradable wastes, and 120 kg of residual wastes. A total of 128 individuals coming from different organizations attended the activity which included personnel from PENRO Rizal, Taytay and Angono River Rangers, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Taytay, Libho Task Force, and the Philippine Coast Guard Station.
