Annually, the DENR-CENRO Calauag takes part in the celebration of the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) which is the largest volunteer effort in the conservation and protection of our ocean and other water bodies.

On 16 September 2022, bulk of garbage was recovered along the coastline of Brgy. Magsaysay, Tagkawayan, Quezon during the cleanup drive mobilized by DENR-CENRO Calauag together with the Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU) of Tagkawayan Quezon, and other volunteer individuals from Samahan ng mga Mangingisda ng Magsaysay (SAMMAG), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and 4Ps beneficiaries.

For this year’s celebration of the most renowned coastal cleanup activity, the theme was “Fighting for Trash-Free Seas, Pilipinas! Ending the Flow of Trash at the Source”.  Setting oceans and waterways free from marine debris is the ultimate goal of the said undertaking, and the key action is to engage the community to raise awareness on the current situation of our coastal areas.

ICC activity is globally being observed and participated by volunteers from various groups and agencies including government and non-government organizations. Another important goal of the said activity is to identify types and sources of garbage that pollutes our water bodies in order to create a roadmap in resolving issues in marine conservation and water pollution.

At the end of the event, a total of 24 sacks with an estimated weight of 325 kilograms of coastal wastes were collected. Most of the trash collected are human induced that constitutes food wrappers, plastic sachets, beverage bottles, PPEs, used clothes, and other single-used plastics.
