The DENR-CENRO Calauag personnel together with the barangay officials of Brgy. Lalaguna Lopez Quezon conducted the celebration of World Environment Health Day 2022 through a cleanup drive and tree growing activity around the perimeter of Lopez Lalaguna Marsh.
Said event aims to raise public awareness on the integral connection of health and the environment, and to promote activities and programs to ensure accountability on environmental integrity and human well-being amid the CoViD-19 pandemic.
Each year, September 26th has been declared as the “World Environmental Health Day” in line with Presidential Proclamation No. 595 series of 2018.
This year’s theme, “Strengthening Environmental Health Systems for the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” set by the International Federation of Environmental Health (IFEH), the celebration highlights the current situation of the country in facing the adversities brought about by various health issues and problems and its possible impacts in environment, health, and economy.
A total of five (5) sacks composed of various types of waste including plastic bottles, plastic caps, plastic sachets and other human-induced wastes were collected along the vicinity of the marshland. Further, 50 indigenous species of Narra, Kamagong, Lipote and other fruit bearing trees were planted within the Vera Shrine located in the same barangay.
CENRO Calauag personnel expressed their gratitude to the participants and reiterated the relationship and interconnection of the environment with human health. The community was also encouraged to further protect and conserve the natural resources especially the Lopez Lalaguna Marsh as it is proposed for establishment as Critical Habitat.
Amid the pandemic and with the pressing concern for human health, promoting and conducting activities to sustain a healthy environment is imperative. This year marks another notable effort of CENRO Calauag in line with the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to maintain a clean and healthy environment for human well-being.
