Gen. Luna, Quezon ─The Focal on Coastal and Marine Ecosystems Management Program (CMEMP) and some Technical Personnel of CENRO Catanauan conducts ground truthing of the major river systems in General Luna, Quezon namely: Hingoso River and Omon River. The activity was undertaken consistent with the Technical Assistance component of CMEMP towards the mainstreaming of Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) to the LGU’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan.

Data gathering and ground truthing are among the additional preparatory activities on mainstreaming the ICM Approach into the CLUP of Gen. Luna, Quezon. Data gathered will be used for the development of Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) Profile of Gen. Luna, Quezon that has to be reflected on maps to be ground truthed.

Ground truthing is an important part of ICM mainstreaming to determine the river systems truly influencing, affecting or draining on the locally managed Marine Protected Area (MPA) or Fish Sanctuary of Gen. Luna, Quezon. Likewise, all the activities from the head water (upstream) down to the river outlet (lowerstream) of the river systems identified were all considered including the identification of key threats, issues and concerns of the LGU related to the environment.

Based on the ground truthed maps/data, CENRO Catanauan will be able to come up with suggestions and recommendations for integration in the CLUP of Gen. Luna, Quezon.
