Buenavista, Quezon - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Local Government Unit (LGU) of Buenavista, Quezon signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the joint implementation of the Forest Land Use Plan (FLUP) of the municipality at Grotto Garden Resort.

The MOA was signed by the PENR Officer Ronilo L. Salac, Hon. Mayor Maria Remedios U. Rivera, Hon. Vice Mayor Alvin Ray U. Rivera, OIC-CENR Officer Ramil J. Gutierrez, and MPDC Maria S. Lingayo. The FLUP was formulated through different activities such as orientation, consultation, meetings, workshop, and writeshop in coordination with and assistance from the DENR-CENRO Catanauan FLUP Team which led the activities for the formulation of the said plan. Buenavista has a total open access area of 735.31 hectares out of 1,489.31 hectares classified forest/timberland area which need to have a holistic conservation approach for sustainable management and development. The FLUP goal is to manage, develop and utilize forests and forest lands including the resources therein on a sustainable basis to meet the needs of the people in Buenavista.

Under Executive Order No. 318 (Promoting Sustainable Forest Management in the Philippines), Local Government Units (LGUs) are mandated to incorporate Forest Land Use Plan (FLUP) into their Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP). Hence, the DENR and LGU are responsible to ensure the sustainable uses and development of the municipality’s forests and forestlands for the present and future generations. ###
