The Focal on Coastal and Marine Ecosystems Management Program (CMEMP) and some Technical Personnel of CENRO Catanauan orients the LGU of Gen. Luna, Quezon on the new direction of ICM towards its mainstreaming to the LGU’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) and Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) at the ABC Hall Building, Gen. Luna, Quezon.

The orientation is a part of a technical assistance provided by CENRO Catanauan to the concerned LGU as preparatory activities prior to the ICM mainstreaming proper pursuant to the BMB Memorandum-Guide for the Implementation of Technical Assistance on mainstreaming ICM to the existing CLUPs and CDPs of the LGU.

The orientation activity was attended by the Municipal Technical Working Group of CLUP and CDP of Gen. Luna, Quezon which composed of Local Department heads from the Municipal Planning and Development Office (MPDO), Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Office of the Municipal Agriculture (OMA), Rural Health Unit (RHU), Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Assessor’s Office, Sangguniang Bayan members and other organizations.

The activity aims to inform the participants on the new direction of the ICM approach and discuss the ICM Framework and its importance as a proven and effective strategy in integrating social, ecological and economic systems affecting our coastal and marine areas.  Also, ICM is a ridge to reef approach that looks at the impacts from the upland, urban areas down to our lowlands and the coastal and marine areas. The rationale on why and how we are mainstreaming ICM was also discussed to the participants to provide them technical knowledge on the importance of ICM to be included in the CLUPs and CDPs. 

Moreover, a reiteration of a memorandum from the DILG apprising LGUs to be informed on the DENR-BMB Technical Bulletin No. 2022-02 Dated 10 May 2022 – “Guide in Mainstreaming the Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) Approach to the Local Government Units’ Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP)”, extending technical assistance (TA) to LGUs on formulation and/or updating of ICM responsive CLUPs was also discussed to the participants.###
