Quezon, QUEZON ―The CENRO Calauag FLUP Team has conducted initial activities for the preparation of the Forest Land Use Plan (FLUP) of Quezon, Quezon in the early months of 2022.

Said undertakings are relevant to the drafting of FLUP. Of which, the said plan is of prime component of the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP), which is crafted by the LGUs in pursuant to Republic Act No. 7160, also known as the Local Government Code of the Philippines.

The municipality of Quezon, Quezon has a total area of forests and forestlands (FFL) of 1,404.73 hectares based on its land classification maps. Wherein, the 553.08 hectares are unallocated areas or open access areas. These are the portions of FFLs without tenurial instruments like Community-Based Forest Management Agreement (CBFMA), and not under programs and projects such as National Greening Program (NGP).

The LGUs have direct authority within their territorial jurisdiction. Likewise, the latter has the responsibility of managing and maintaining the ecological balance within their respective area. The DENR and its offices in the same way is the primary agency that facilitates these directives for the protection and conservation of natural resources towards sustainable development.

As of July 2022, the FLUP preparation Team has completed the community profiling in the 18 subject barangays of Quezon, Quezon. The draft FLUP was already submitted to the FLUP Regional Technical Working Group (RTWG) of the DENR CALABARZON for finalization and affirmation of the Regional Executive Director.

The next phase, the adoption of the finalized FLUP by the municipality of Quezon, Quezon is expected to materialize in 2023.
