Bay, Laguna - In observance of the Philippine Environment Month celebration 2022 with a theme “Aksyon para sa Natatanging Mundo”, the DENR CALABARZON Division Chiefs and PENRO Laguna, in coordination with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Barangay Maitim, conducted a tree planting activity in Bay, Laguna. 

In his message, Barangay Councilor Hermino Bidania mentioned that the Sangguniang Barangay of Maitim is extremely grateful for being part of the tree planting project and gave their warm welcome and support to the activity. Likewise, residents willingly participated bearing in mind that the activity will be beneficial in saving the environment. 

PENR Officer Eriberto B. Saños said, “Wala na tayong ibang mundo kundi ito na lamang. Ito ay patuloy nating pangalagaan” as he reminded everyone the importance of planting trees and proper waste management as vital actions in protecting and sustaining the life of the environment. 

DENR CALABARZON Licenses, Patents and Deeds Division (LPDD) Chief and ENRA Manager, Engr. Olivia Bejo also added that the ecosystems are interconnected to one another. Protecting nature does not only benefit the environment, but also the people. “Tulungan nating maalis ang mga basura sa ating katubigan” as she explains the benefits of bamboo in mitigating environment pollution. 

A total of 90 people participated in the tree planting activity and 170 seedlings consisting of 100 bamboo, 25 Bitaog, 25 Duhat, 10 Kalamansi, and 10 Calamandarin are planted along the riverbank of Barangay Maitim. ###
