A clean-up drive was conducted along Lagnas River in Brgy. Bulakin II, Dolores, Quezon by the personnel from the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Tayabas together with the barangay officials and residents as part of the celebration of the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDBD) 2022.

About 15 sacks of non-biodegradable wastes – composed mostly of plastics materials and clothes – were collected by the participants along the river reaching about 952 meters out of the total 12-kilometer stretch of Lagnas River. Based on the observation and wastes collected, the river is often used for bathing/picnicking as well as for washing clothes by locals.

The Watershed Focal Person of CENRO Tayabas, Forester Kristian Rodrigo A. Yara, stated during a short program that the activity is part of the rehabilitation of the said river and IDBD 2022 celebration. Yara also mentioned that the theme “Building a shared future for all life” represents the collaborative efforts of mankind on the conservation and protection of the river which serves as habitat for various life forms.

Barangay Chairperson Roderick C. Velasco of Brgy. Bulakin II extended his gratitude to the participants for joining the said activity and encouraged everyone to continue similar activities in relation to the rehabilitation of the Lagnas River
