The DENR-CENRO Calauag spearheaded an awareness campaign and coastal cleanup, 18 May 2022, along the coasts of Brgy. Caridad, Quezon, Quezon to highlight the celebration of Month of the Ocean (MOO) 2022.

The observance of the event is one the most renowned environmental campaigns in the conservation and protection of our ocean as well as the marine and coastal resources.

In 2021, the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development crafted a theme that is used worldwide from CY 2021 to CY 2030. This theme, ‘’The Science We Need for the Ocean We Want,” highlights the global initiative to incorporate Science to the continuous conservation and preservation of our coastal and marine ecosystem.

The DENR-CENRO Calauag, Quezon through the Coastal and Marine Ecosystems Management Program (CMEMP) conducts annual activities to view the celebration of the MOO and raise the community’s awareness to preserve and conserve the existing coastal and marine life and resources.

The awareness campaign conducted by CENRO Calauag emphasized the discussion of several environmental laws such as Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, Wildlife Act, and Chainsaw Act. The Marine Turtle Biology and Ecology, Conservation and Protection, as well as the five (5) marine turtles found in the Philippines were also tackled. Furthermore, the Ridge-to-Reef Approach and importance of forest was stressed during the campaign.

A total of ten (10) sacks of coastal trash that consist majorly of food wrappers (candy, chips, etc.), clothes, plastic bags, and plastic bottles, among others were retrieved along the coastline of Brgy. Caridad by partakers from Barangay Caridad, Quezon LGU, and CENRO Calauag.
