In celebration of the Month of the Ocean (MOO), the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Calaca conducted Coastal Clean-up and Mangrove Planting this May 17, 2022 in Brgy. Bagong Silang, Calatagan, Batangas

The Ocean Month celebration is held every May to highlight the importance of conserving, protecting and sustainable management of marine resources. This year 2022 it is celebrated with the theme “Protect and Restore Ecosystems and Biodiversity”. In relation to this, the CENRO Calaca conducted coastal clean-up within the marine turtle nesting site of Brgy. Bagong Silang, Calatagan, Batangas and mangrove planting within Mangrove Protected Area of the same barangay in coordination with the Local Government Unit of Calatagan represented by Municipal Environment and Natural resources Office (MENRO).

“Kung Hindi ngayon, Kalian pa”, CENRO Amatorio said as he pointed out the simple actions that each individual can do today that will save the life of the marine resources in the future. He also encouraged the community to report immediately to DENR CENRO Calaca Batangas if ever they have encountered an incident of marine resources destruction or environmental laws violation.

There are about 52 individuals who participated in the said event from DENR CENRO Calaca led by CENRO Isagani Q. Amatorio, Barangay Eco-tourism personnel,  Barangay Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Management Council (BFARMC) and Brgy. Officials of Bagong Silang led by Brgy. Captain Pacifico Atienza, Samahan ng Mangingisdang Magpoprotekta sa Bakawanan ng Barangay Bagong Silang (SaMMaBaBa) People’s Organization led by Mr. Alexander Rosales, Bantay Dagat representatives, and volunteers from residents of barangay.

In total, 26 sacks were collected within the Marine Turtle Nesting Site and 200 mangrove seedlings were planted within the Mangrove Protected Area of Bagong Silang.###
