The DENR CENRO Lipa through its Manila Bay Site Coordinating Management Office (MBSCMO) – Batangas in partnership with the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Malvar, Batangas recognized the initiative of fifteen (15) participating barangays of the municipality  in establishing sustainable ecological gardens and solid waste management practices anchored in the rehabilitation of the San Juan River system in support of the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program.

Barangays San Pioquinto, Bagong Pook, Poblacion, Luta Norte, Luta Sur, San Gregorio, San Isidro, San Pedro I, San Pedro II, Bilucao, Bulihan, San Andres, Santiago, San Juan, and San Fernando were awarded with certificates of appreciation and incentives from the LGU of Malvar through the Hon. Mayor Cristeta Reyes; MENRO Editha Eusebio, Atty. Rey Villegas, Bea Liza Latido and Arlou Jane Matienzo of MBSCMO-Batangas, and representatives from Light Industry Science Park (LISP) IV, and Odyssey Foundation Inc. (OFI) at the Municipal Hall of Malvar, Batangas. The first prize of the Search for Best Ecological Garden and Solid Waste Management Practices in the Urban and Rural Barangays of Malvar was awarded to Brgy. Bilucao while the second and third prizes were given to Brgys. Bagong Pook and San Pedro I, respectively.

Special awards sponsored by LISP IV were also awarded to Brgy. San Pedro II (Best in Documentation and Provision of IEC Campaign), Brgy. San Pedro I (Barangay with Most Active 4P’s Members), Brgy. Bagong Pook (Best Barangay Support). OFI also sponsored special awards which were given to Brgy. San Gregorio (Most Improved Eco-garden), Brgy. San Fernando (Second Most Improved Eco-garden), Brgys. San Juan and San Pioquinto (Third Most Improved Eco-gardens), and Brgy. Luta Norte (Best Waste Diversion Practice).

MBSCMO-Batangas will conduct regular monitoring of the established ecological gardens. For CY 2022, continuous promotion of waste diversion in support of hunger mitigation through self-sufficient food production will be implemented for the City of Lipa, Batangas. ###
