In participation with the Tree Hugging Movement celebrated every 14 to 18 of February, officials from DENR-PENRO Batangas conducted a Tree Hugging activity on February 16, 2022 at Plaza Mabini, Batangas City. Trees such as Molawin / Molave (Vitex parviflora), Narra (Pterocarpus indicus), Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla) and Acacia (Samanea saman) are present in the area. Some of the Acacia trees on the said vicinity are said to be more than hundred years old since based on the record, the trees were planted as early as 1917s.

The Tree Hugging Movement aims to raise awareness about the importance of nurturing forest and the benefits of tree hugging to a person’s well-being.  Study shows that hugging a tree increases levels of hormones that is responsible for the calmness and emotional aspect of a person. Hugging a tree and spending time around a tree can lower blood pressure and heart rates, improve immunity and reduce stress and anxiety levels. Also, trees are the best counselors because they’re good at listening, quiet, trustworthy and entirely at your service for free. Talking to a tree helps you feel not judged, creates mental clarity and emotional cleansing, causing you to feel lighter and happier. It is also an alternative way of celebrating Valentine’s Day by showing and expressing the love and care for the environment.
