Amidst the global pandemic and in response to the COVID-19 protocols, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources thru the Office of the Undersecretary for Solid Waste Management and Local Government Concerns headed by USEC Benny D. Antiporda initiated a ceremonial turn-over of yellow bins to LGUs of Noveleta and Ternate on 09 February 2022. Said yellow bins are intended to be used for the disposal of health care wastes as a measure to alleviate the spread of the Covid 19 virus.

The event was graced by DENR CALABARZON key officials led by Regional Executive Director Nilo B. Tamoria and PENR Officer Januel R. Peras. Also, present in the ceremony is the Honorable Jolo Revilla, Vice-Governor of the Province of Cavite, and the Municipal Mayors of the Municipalities of Noveleta and Ternate, Hon. Dino Chua and Hon. Lamberto D. Bambao, respectively.

Solid Waste Management and Manila Bay Rehabilitation are some of the priority programs that the department is trying to address during these times. This initiative is very timely and relevant during the surge of Covid 19 which directly contributed to the increase of garbage in the waste stream due to the mandatory use of face masks, face shields, and other personal protective equipment. The distribution of yellow bins could be an effective measure to address the danger posed by improper waste management of COVID healthcare wastes, as expressed by RED Nilo B. Tamoria. He also added “Nagpapasalamat kami sa lokal na pamahalaan ng Noveleta at Ternate sa patuloy na pagsuporta sa mga programa ng DENR at lubos na pasasalamat kay USEC Benny Antiporda sa pagbigay pansin sa mga malilitt na bayan sa CALABARZON para maiprioritize ang mga programa ng DENR”.

One hundred (100) yellow bins were turned over for each municipality of Noveleta and Ternate for the effective containment of infectious wastes such as face masks, COVID test kits, and other healthcare wastes used to fight against COVID-19.

Meanwhile, additional units of yellow bins were scheduled to be distributed in other towns of the Province in the following days. This initiative is in line with Resolution No. 1364, Series of 2021 “Adopting Guidelines on the Management of COVID-19 Related Health Care Wastes”. ###
