Early morning of Saturday, December 04, 2021, the DENR CENRO Lipa provided technical assistance to the University of the Philippines Los Baños-School of Environmental Science and Management (UPLB-SESAM) during their conduct of Tree Planting and Nurturing Activity together with the Rotary Club of Bay and Sangguniang Barangay of San Isidro Norte, Sto. Tomas, Batangas.

The Sangguniang Barangay of San Isidro Norte, Sto. Tomas City headed by the Barangay Chairman, Hon. Sarah J. Edos warmly welcomed the participants for the said activity. UPLB Chancellor, Dr. Jose V. Camacho, Jr. graced the event and also shared his remarks. Another message was given by the Rotary of Bay President, Engr. Gilbert Hidalgo, and UPLB-SESAM Dean, Dr. Rico C. Ancog. On behalf of the CENR Officer Allan Willard M. Estillore, Forester I Camille Paulene Peria also gave an opening message and mentioned that this activity is also in support of the celebration of World Soils Day. She also gave an overview of the tree planting activity together with Forest Technician I, Leopoldo Macalintal, Jr.

This tree planting and growing activity are one of SESAM’s outreach programs to demonstrate and extend commitments to the environment and the community. And as for continuing support to the DENR’s National Greening Program (NGP) and as part of the field visit, the activity aims to conserve and protect streambank to prevent floods and soil erosion along the San Juan River. A total of one hundred fifty (150) seedlings were planted which were composed of seventy-five pieces of each Narra (Pterocarpus indicus) and Molave (Vitex parviflora). ###
