DENR CENRO Lipa, through the Manila Bay Site Coordinating/Management Office (MBSCMO) - Batangas, conducted a cleanup activity along San Juan River traversing Barangay Darasa, Tanauan City on Monday, 29 November 2021 in support and observance of the 2021 National Day for Youth in Climate Action.

River rangers and representatives from the barangay joined CENRO personnel in the activity and were able to remove thirty (30) sacks of non-biodegradable and residual wastes weighing approximately 300 kgs which were collected in the 150 meters stretch on both sides of the river.

In a short program prior to actual clean-up activities, MBSCMO Batangas Focal Person Josefa M. Lozada highlighted the ongoing rehabilitation of the San Juan River in Batangas to complement the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program. She also acknowledged the support and cooperation of the barangay on the activities relative to the rehabilitation program. Also, MBSCMO Deputy Focal Person/Information Officer Camille Paulene Peria conducted a Communication, Education, and Public Awareness (CEPA) campaign regarding the activity and proper solid waste management and she also highlighted the importance of the youth’s role in climate change. Additional information pertaining to the National Environment Awareness Month and National Climate Change Consciousness Week were also discussed.
