Catanauan, Quezon- The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), Catanauan conducted Community Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) through “Dalaw Turo” regarding on the Management and Protection of Cave and Cave Resources held at the Barangay hall of Brgy. San Juan, San Narciso, Quezon.
 
The 1-day activity was facilitated by CENRO Catanauan personnel to address the poaching incidence of bats inside the cave. Said incident was raised by the Brgy. Officials during the cave reconnaissance survey conducted by the Technical personnel of CENRO Catanauan last July 8-9, 2021 which urges them to immediately organize a Community Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) through “Dalaw Turo” with the purpose of educating the Brgy. residents on the science of cave formation as well as the resources (flora and fauna) that are found and inhabited therein.
 
Relevant topics discussed were the following:
Republic Act No. 9072 otherwise known as the National Caves and Cave Resources Management and Protection Act;
DENR Administrative Order 2003-29 or the IRR of RA 9072;
Cave Geology and Biology; and
Cave Management Plan
 
Majority of the topics were discussed by Forest Technician II John Dave D. Natividad and Forest Technician I Jamille Fritz L. De Rama of CENRO Catanauan, Quezon. The “Dalaw Turo” was participated in by the Brgy. Officials, business owners, and residents near the existing cave of the aforementioned barangay.
 
The 1-day activity served as the avenue for the community’s concerns pertaining to the cave management within their area. Moreover, the participants had clearer insights on what particular conservation approaches should be practiced without compromising the cave’s natural state.###
