CALAUAN, LAGUNA - One (1) Long-tailed Macaque (Macaca fascicularis) and one (1) Martines or Crested Myna (Acridotheres cristatellus was turned over by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Cuenca, Batangas to the care of DENR CENRO Lipa. The wildlife were reported to be initially under the custody of private individuals, however, they were later on handed down to the LGU as the former sought for provision of proper care and attention. Both wildlife were examined and ascertained to be in good health condition.

On October 1, 2021, the wildlife were turned over to the Regional Office Wildlife Rescue Center situated in Calauan, Laguna. In support to the campaign against illegal activities involving wildlife, CENRO Lipa implements various activities such as Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaigns, LAWIN Patrolling and operations of Wildlife Trafficking and Monitoring Unit (WTMU) in Batangas International Port and other initiatives to strengthen partnerships with the LGUs in terms of law enforcement and in the conservation and protection of the wildlife and their habitat.

The Republic Act No. 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act, provides strict institutional safeguards for Philippine flora and fauna. Anyone who will be found guilty in violation of this act will be penalized accordingly.  ###
