Tayabas City – Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Quezon conducted an Orientation/Learning Event on Accounting and Valuation of Protected Area Resources and Services of Binahaan River Watershed Forest Reserve (BRWFR) under CENRO Tayabas and Maulawin Spring Protected Landscape (MSPL) under CENRO Calauag on October 8-9, 2021 at Nawawalang Paraiso Resort and Hotel, Brgy. Camaysa, Tayabas City.

This training course aims to develop/increase knowledge and skills of the team created, composed of newly hired enumerators and DENR personnel, in conducting water resource valuation of the said pre-identified Protected Areas. 

Professor Mary Ann R. Agudilla, Ph.D. of College of Agriculture, Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) Main Campus, handled the discussion on Water Resource Valuation that covers valuation methodologies including the strategies on data gathering and analysis.

On the other hand, Forester Jan Marrion Cadelino, Science Research Specialist II of Ecosystem Research and Development Bureau-Urban and Biodiversity Research Development and Extension Center (ERDB-UBRDEC) discussed the topic regarding Natural Capital Accounting Valuation of Ecosystem Services that covers the importance of measuring the flows of benefits which people gain from protected areas as it also provides concepts to be incorporated into policy and decision-making for effective protected area management. 

The conduct of water resource valuation will consider developing natural capital accounts and valuation of ecosystems, specifically these two (2) protected areas, notably protected and maintained for their functions as watersheds and as water source for the surrounding communities. ###
