Catanauan, Quezon – CENRO Catanauan Focal on Coastal and Marine Ecosystems Management Program (CMEMP) under Conservation and Development Section (CDS) led by Forester II Nida C. Barros and some Technical Personnel conducted an orientation on mainstreaming Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) to the existing Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) and Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) of the Local Government Unit of Catanauan, San Francisco and Mulanay, Quezon on July 6, August 3 and August 17, 2021, respectively.

The orientation activities were conducted in compliance to the BMB Memorandum-Guide for the Implementation of Technical Assistance on mainstreaming ICM to the existing CLUPs and CDPs of the said municipalities. Including in the Memorandum Guide is the preparatory activities such as mapping of the principal river system that is draining, influencing, and entering to a NIPAS MPA/LMMPAs and inventory of the status and span the LGU’s ICM Plan, CLUP and CDP.

The orientation was conducted to provide them a Technical Assistance on the preparatory activities for each LGUs by discussing the ICM Framework and Rationale of Mainstreaming ICM into the CLUP and CDP. The orientation activity was attended by the Municipal Mayors, Municipal Planning and Development Officers, CLUP and CDP Municipal Technical Working Group (MTWG) and Brgy. Chairpersons of each municipality.

It was discussed to them the ICM Framework and its importance as a proven and effective strategy in integrating social, ecological and economic systems affecting our coastal and marine areas.  Also, ICM is a ridge to reef approach that looks at the impacts from the upland, urban areas down to our lowlands, the coastal and marine areas. The rationale on why and how we are mainstreaming ICM was also discussed to the participants to provide them technical assistance on the importance of ICM to be included in the CLUPs and CDPs.  

The activity was successfully conducted as the participants and the speakers from CENRO Catanauan both exchanges ideas and queries for the mainstreaming ICM as an approach to their existing CLUPs and CDPs.

That song is a reminder for us to take a lead in conserving, managing and protecting our remaining natural resources for the benefit of our next generation”, said Hon. Mayor Jay Tito Q. Ojeda of Mulanay, Quezon.
