Coastal clean-up activity in the marine turtle nesting site located in Brgy. Bagong Silang, Calatagan, Batangas was conducted by the DENR CENRO Calaca on September 14, 2021. The activity aims to maintain and protect the existing marine turtle nesting site in the area as well as to raise awareness and promote community participation for marine turtle conservation and protection.

The activity was participated in by twenty (20) individuals (6 male and 13 female) including CENRO Calaca Conservation and Development Section personnel, residents and Barangay Officials of Bagong Silang, Calatagan, Batangas.

A total of 8 sacks of solid waste composed mainly of plastic and glass bottles, drinking straws, and cigarette butts, were collected along the 1-kilometer shoreline of the said barangay. The collected wastes were picked up by the garbage truck collector of the barangay LGU for proper waste disposal.

Further, 30 pcs of IEC materials were distributed to the participants including caps and flyers that shows information regarding the status, importance and conservation of marine turtles in the Philippines. ###
