ILLEGAL TREE CUTTING INSIDE MTS. BANAHAW-SAN CRISTOBAL PROTECTED LANDSCAPE (MBSCPL)

Los Banos, Laguna – Assigned Forest Protection Officer Edgar Albano received an information from an unidentified yet concerned individual regarding an alleged illegal tree cutting in Brgy. San Francisco, Nagcarlan, Laguna on August 7, 2021 and immediately informed the PENRO on the said complaint/information. In order to verify the veracity of the information, Quick Response Team (QRT) of PENRO Laguna proceeded to the area on August 9, 2021 in close coordination with the local government unit of San Francisco, Nagcarlan, Laguna.

Upon evaluation and validation, the QRT found out that the illegal tree cutting activity is within the Forest Conservation Area and boundary of Mts. Banahaw-San Cristobal Protected Landscape (MBSCPL). A total of forty-three (43) pieces of naturally grown trees with an estimated volume of 1.28 cubic meters or 542.72 board feet were illegally cut down which includes various tree species such as Libakan, Tibig, Hawili, Kahoy-dalaga, and Balukanag.

Aside from tree cutting, an estimated 500 square meters of the said area was subjected to clearing and burning in preparation for cash crops planting.

Please be reminded that any tree cutting activity without a permit issued by the DENR is a clear violation of Section 77 of Presidential Decree No. 705 or the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines and is punishable under the law.
