Arbor day is being celebrated in the Philippines every 25th of June pursuant to Proclamation No. 643 signed by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo which states that celebration must be observed throughout the nation by planting trees and ornamental plants and other forms of relevant activities. It also enjoins the active participation of all Government Agencies including Government-Owned or Controlled Corporations, Private Sector, Schools, Civil Society, and the citizenry to participate in tree planting activities nationwide.

Today, the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Calaca in cooperation with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and Society of Filipino Foresters Inc. (SFFI) conducted Mangrove Tree Planting activity in Brgy. Luyahan, Lian, Batangas as part of the celebration of the Philippine Arbor Day 2021.

The said activity was also participated by officials and residents of Brgy. Luyahan including the "Samahan ng Mangingisda ng Luyahan" (SAMAL) People's Organization.

In his remarks, OIC-CENR Officer  Isagani Amatorio emphasized the importance of mangroves as protection against the calamities such as storm surge.

Total of 250 seedlings of Rhizophora mucronata (Bakauan-bato) were successfully planted by 50 participants during the activity.
