A joint cleanup activity was conducted in San Juan River traversing the boundary of Barangay San Fernando and Barangay Santiago in Malvar, Batangas.

A total of fifty (50) participants headed by the Manila Bay Site/Coordinating Office (MBSCMO-Batangas) staff and hired River Rangers also joined by personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO), Barangay Officials, BNS, BHW, 4Ps members and other volunteers from the said Barangays participated the cleanup activity.

A total of eighty (80) sacks weighing approximately 1600 kgs. of non-biodegradable and residual wastes were collected within the stretch of 60-meter length of the river.

The collected wastes were hauled by the dump truck of Barangay San Fernando, Malvar immediately after the cleanup. Biodegradable wastes such as bamboo and tree branches were compiled in one area to decompose naturally.

Moreover, an IEC regarding the ongoing project of the San Juan River Rehabilitation as one of the National Government efforts for the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program and salient provisions of the Ecological Solid Waste Management (ESWM) on proper waste segregation and disposal was conducted by staff of MBSCMO-Batangas on the said barangays.

In relation to the abovementioned, IEC materials in the form of booklet containing information on RA 9003 and RA 9275 were distributed to the participants.
