July is a busy month for CENRO Real, Quezon. Amidst COVID-19 pandemic, and in observance of strict protocol of social distancing and wearing of face masks, series of activities were undertaken in relation to the celebration of National Disaster Month for July with the theme: Sama-samang Pagsulong Tungo sa Katatagan sa Gitna ng Bagong Normal”

On July 16, 2020, a total of forty-two (42) participants from Municipal Environment & Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Real, Quezon, barangay officials of Barangay Capalong in Real, Quezon, PENRO Quezon personnel and CENRO personnel joined in the coastal clean-up along the shorelines of the Municipal Fish Sanctuary, a Marine Protected Area (MPA) in Barangay Capalong Real, Quezon.

On July 23, 2020, Enforcement & Monitoring Section Chief, Forester III Ronaldo Rozaldo together with EMS I Azor Bonita and Forest Technician I Webster Bringel collected trash and various marine waste. Dubbed as “SCUBAsurero”, the three personnel conducted diving activity for “basura” underneath the Municipal Fish Sanctuary in Real, Quezon.

On July 30, 2020, OIC CENRO Lupo Telan and Conservation & Development Section Chief, Forester II Lyra Michaela Rivera spearheaded the coastal clean-up along the shorelines of Barangay Poblacion 1 and Balute Island in Real, Quezon. This activity, which was participated by thirty (30) personnel is in line with the celebration of the World Mangrove Day. CENRO Telan highlighted this activity by giving information and education campaign on the importance of mangroves in providing the first line of defense for coastal communities. Mangrove ecosystem stabilizes shorelines to prevent soil erosion. It was also emphasized that we cannot prevent the occurrence of disaster but we can reduce the risk if we are properly informed. Awareness and preparedness in matters regarding our environment will help us to be disaster resilient in embracing the new normal.
