An anonymous concerned citizen from Brgy. Pacita 2, San Pedro City, Laguna willingly surrenders one Philippine long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis philippensis) to DENR-PENRO Laguna. The said wildlife species was in good condition and was brought immediately to the DENR CALABARZON Regional Wildlife and Rescue Center located in Brgy. Lamot II, Calauan, Laguna.

The Philippine long-tailed macaque is a subspecies of the crab-eating macaque, known in various Philippine languages as matsing or the more general term unggoy ("monkey"). It is endemic to the Philippine forests and woodlands, but especially in the mangrove forests of western central Philippines— particularly in Palawan, the Visayas, and Mindanao

The said wildlife is listed and designated as “Other Threatened Species” under the DENR Administrative Order No. 2004-15 and “Endangered” under International Union of Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species.

PENRO Laguna reminds the public that killing and destroying wildlife species, inflicting injury, destructing wildlife habitats, trading, collecting, hunting or possessing and transporting wildlife without the necessary permits from the DENR are considered illegal acts per Section 27 of the Republic Act 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.

The public is encouraged to report to PENRO Laguna any illegal acts against wildlife species as well as sightings within the province through telephone number (049) 536-5889 or email address This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
