Protection and IEC CY 2012

A total of 172,603 hectares of NIPAS areas were patrolled and protected. These areas include the initial components and additional sites of NIPAS within CALABARZON Region. Along with the protection and patrolling activities being conducted by the field offices, regular IEC within the covering and adjacent municipalities of the PA’s were likewise undertaken.

• Conduct of Sectoral Consultation Meeting 

The Protected Areas, Wildlife and Coastal Zone Management Sector (PAWCZMS) Consultation Meeting was held on March 1-2, 2012 at Club Balai Isabel, Talisay, Batangas. The highlights of the consultation meeting were the following:

1. Presentation of the PAWCZMS Thrust and Programs for CY 2012 by PEO III Elvira Gealon of the Planning Management Division (PMD);

2. Presentation of the PAWCZMS Work and Financial Plan for CY 2012 by PAMS Chief and SEMS Justina Umali and CMMD Chief Domingo Bravo,
    Ph.D.;

3. Updates on the activities undertaken in the following priority protected areas within the region:

    a. Mts. Banahaw-San Cristobal Protected Landscape (MBSCPL) by PASu Salud Pangan
    b. Upper Marikina River Basin Protected Landscape (UMRBPL) by EMS II Mamerto Madriaga, Jr.
    c. Taal Volcano Protected Landscape (TVPL) by CENRO/PASu Laudemir Salac d. Mts. Palay-Palay Mataas na Gulod Protected Landscape
       (MPPMNGPL) by For. Joseph Angelus Palomar

4. Updates on the activities conducted in other protected areas within the region by the concerned Regional Focal Persons;

5. Updates on the following special projects withinthe region: 

    a. New Conservation Areas of the Philippines Project (NewCAPP) by PAWD Chief Victor Mercado and For. CerJay Jimenez
    b. Kanan Watershed Management Project (KWMP) by For. Jefferson Cruz

6. Updates on the Regional Wildlife Rescue Center (RWRC) by For. Elisa de Vera; 

7. Re-echo on the Zookeeper’s Training Workshop by SRA Flornida Castro;

8. Re-echo on the Verde Island Passage and Marine Corridor (VIPMC) Vulnerability Assessment by Dr. Domingo Bravo; and 

9. Open forum and discussion on the issues and concerns pertaining to the Sector.


• Revenue Generation

A total of Php712,003.46 revenue collection was generated from Protected Area User’s fee and entrance fee in Taal Volcano Protected Landscape (TVPL), Mts. Palay-palay/Mataas na Gulod Protected Landscape (MPPMNGPL), Mts. Banahaw-San Cristobal Protected Landscape (MBSCPL), Buenavista Protected Landscape (BPL), Presidential Proclamation 1636 and Pamitinan Protected Landscape(PPL). From the processing and issuance of NIPAS Certification, Php 250.00 was generated for CY 2012.
