In celebration of the International Day of Forests 2022, the CENRO Calauag opted to plant Guyabano seedlings at the portion of Pipisik riverbank in Gumaca, Quezon.

With this year’s theme, “Forests and Sustainable Production and Consumption,” the said office planted the NGP CY 2011 Urban Plantation with Guyabano (Annona muricata) seedlings. Said plantation lies in Brgy. Butaguin, Gumaca, Quezon, a portion of Pipisik riverbank, of which the streambanks are prone to erosion.

Trees’ root system has the ability to hold the soil and prevent erosion. Aside from streambank stabilization, Guyabano tree can also provide food for the community by means of its fruits. Hence, with these benefits, this year’s celebration emphasizes the call for trees’ sustainable utilization.

One of the partakers in the activity, the Gumaca Tree Planters and Pallet Makers Agriculture Cooperative (GTPPMAC), inked a MOA between the DENR last 2021 under the “Tayo Ang Kalikasan” (TAK), to adopt the said National Greening Program (NGP) plantation. The said organization agreed to coordinate with the DENR on the maintenance and protection of the plantation for a period of at least five (5) years.

Individuals from the GTPPMAC, MENRO of Gumaca, and CENRO Calauag planted a total of two hundred (200) Guyabano seedlings at the said portion of streambank in Pipisik River.
