A total of 66 pieces of lumber consisting of 1,435 bd.ft. Yakal and 218 bd.ft. chainsawn Lauan lumber with a total volume of 1,653 bd.ft. found mixed with imported wood materials during the surveillance operation conducted on February 6, were apprehended inside the lumberyard of South Timberland Marketing Corporation (STMC) in Calamba City, Laguna.

            On February 5, the Enforcement Division of DENR CALABARZON received an information, from its Deputized Environment and Natural Resources Officers (DENROs) operating in Laguna area, on the presence of undocumented Narra and Yakal lumber at the lumberyard of STMC. In response, the DENR CALABARZON Regional Office and PENRO Laguna conducted an immediate lumber check inventory of the lumber stock of STMC to verify the transport documents issued from the point of origin up to the final place of destination, the STMC.

            The operation resulted in the apprehension of the timber products with an estimated value of PhP 107,445.00. The apprehended items were then transferred to the DENR impounding area in Brgy. Lalakay, Los Baños, Laguna on February 10, 2020 for the Administrative Confiscation hearing to be conducted by DENR Laguna pursuant to
DAO #97-32.

            Pursuant to RA 1239, all business establishments engaged in buying and selling lumber should secure Certificate of Registration as Lumber Dealer (CRLD) from DENR. As part of the anti-illegal logging operations of the DENR, inspection of the lumber dealer operations is a regular activity of DENR especially by the PENROs and CENROs including the Regional Office through the Enforcement Division.
