The DENR CALABARZON, in partnership with the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF), conducted a series of Public Viewing of the DENR CALABARZON’s State of the Environment and Natural Resources (ENR), and free screening of the award-winning documentary film “Bird of Prey” last October 21-25, 2019 in five (5) provinces of CALABARZON Region, which was attended by more than 1,000 participants.

The DENR CALABARZON’s State of the ENR is a 14-minute Audio-Visual Presentation (AVP) that highlights the current challenges of the ecosystems, aligned with the Ten (10) Priority Programs of the Agency. The video provides information on the tasks of DENR IV-A and how it addresses the challenges.

The Philippine eagle is the flagship species of the Philippine Raptors Conservation Program implemented by the Biodiversity Management Bureau and has sightings in the Sierra Madre mountain ranges in Luzon. This giant bird of prey that can only be seen in four (4) islands in the Philippines- Luzon, Samar, Leyte, and Mindanao. In CALABARZON, there were sightings in General Nakar, Quezon and in Tanay, Rizal.

 “We are doing our part but there is always a room for all of you to do your part in protecting the environment that includes the critically endangered species like the Philippine Eagle,” says Ms. Jorgine “Boey” Peña, Marketing Officer of Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF), in hopes that bringing the movie to different parts of the country will raise awareness of the current situation of the wildlife. The PEF shared their organization’s initiative in supporting the implementation of environmental laws and protecting the environment, which includes providing the Indigenous People livelihood projects and programs. She disclosed that members of the IPs serve as the forest guards in the area. The IP community also produces handmade goods and merchandise which the PEF helps sell. She added that all proceeds are given to the communities.

The DENR’s initiative to protect the Philippine Eagle and wildlife includes the conduct of LAWIN patrolling, intensified forest protection, and the Expanded National Greening Program (e-NGP). 

The information drive, through a series of public viewing of the said AVP and film-documentary, served as an eye-opener and inspiration to the youth towards conservation and protection of various ecosystems for the succeeding generations.  ###
