During the press conference conducted on May 22, 2019 coinciding the celebration of the International Day of Biological Diversity (IDBD) at the DENR IV-A (CALABARZON) Building, Atty. Marianito Dio from the Legal Division, one of the key speakers, discussed Green Courts.

DENR CALABARZON Regional Executive Director, Maria Paz G. Luna, said that the Green Courts are one of the solutions to address the Region’s environmental problems.

These are courts specifically for environmental cases. In 2008, the Supreme Court designated 117 green courts and there are currently fifteen (15) green courts located in CALABARZON and one (1) in MIMAROPA.

Rules of procedures for Green Courts includes liberalized locus standi which gives people the capability to file complaint for violators, the precautionary principle, the Strategic Lawsuit against Public Participation (SLAPP), Writ of Kalikasan, and Writ of Continuing Mandamus.

These rules of procedures are created to encourage people to file environmental cases. Any person can file complaints and reports related to the environment in the Prosecutor’s Office.
