Department of Environment and Natural Resources –Region 4A CALABARZON Regional Director Reynulfo A. Juan receives from Lisa McClennon, USAID Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Investigations,  a copy of the satellite map of the Upper Marikina Watershed produced by the USAID-Philippines’ Biodiversity and Watersheds Improved for Stronger Economy and Ecosystem Resilience (B+WISER) Program during the latter’s inspection visit of USAID projects in the country recently. Juan and officials of the B+WISER briefed MacLennnon on efforts being done to effectively manage the Upper Marikina River Basin Protected Landscape where the DENR CALABARZON head stressed the importance of the watershed as it helps regulate the flow of water to Metro Manila and nearby areas. Juan also highlighted the roles of various sectors, including the local government units, civil society, corporate groups, Indigenous Peoples and academe in the management the 26,000-hectare watershed. Ms. McClennon was in country to visit USAID projects and get firsthand information on how US Government assistance programs are being implemented. She said USAID assured continuing support to Philippine Government through its Environment, Energy and Climate Change Program.
