DENR, with PIA, launches Climate Change Advocacy Campaign in the CALABARZON Region

To effectively communicate climate change adaptation and mitigation measures to fellow Filipinos, particularly in the most vulnerable communities, The Department of Environment and Natural Resources, in tandem with the Philippine Information Agency in Region 4A CALABARZON gathered national and community print, radio and television broadcast media     practitioners in the region in an effort to win their support and help in winning the support of the  the region’s populace in mitigating the impact and adaptation to the effects of climate change.     DENR Calabarzon Regional Technical Director for Protected Areas, Wildlife and Coastal Zone Management Service, Dr. Domingo R. Bravo (left), representing DENR-IVA Regional Director Reynulfo A. Juan, lauded the campaign’s branding--“Nagbabago na ang Panahon, Panahon na Para Magbago” and expressed optimism it would catch attention and eventually get the needed support to the campaign. PIA 4A Regional Director Norito A. Cabotaje (center) presented the campaign’s theme and emphasized the potential of the campaign in mobilizing the communities to act against climate change, as well as in minimizing, if not eliminating, their apathy towards any government campaign. Office of the Civil DefenCe-IVA Regional Director concurrent chair of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-IVA, Vicente F. Tomazar (right) related disasters with climate change and the timeliness of the campaign launch with the observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month of July. He said climate change affects everyone and everything, making efforts to adapt to and mitigate its effects necessary. DENR Calabarzon Regional Technical Director for Forest Management Service Ferdinand Hermano (not in photo) stressed the importance of planting trees and rehabilitating our forests particularly under the National Greening Program, as well as protecting the remaining forests of the region and the country. Other top officials of the DENR, including Legal Division chief Atty. Fernando Belandres, Ecosystems Research and Development Services’ Forester Oliver Viado, Land Management Services’ Olivia Bejo, and DENR Laguna provincial ENR Officer Dr. Isidro Mercado also grace the launched. The friends in media expressed their to support the campaign as well as their willingness to be deputized environment and natural resources officers.
