The Department of Environment and Natural Resources CALABARZON recognizes the role of social media on the office’s prompt response on reports during emergency situations.
Recently, two grass owls were rescued from a grassfire incident at Barangay Canlalay, Biñan City, Laguna by Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) officers and personnel on February 12 and was turned over to the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office(PENRO) Laguna the next day.
Information on the said incident first circulated on social media and was forwarded to DENR CALABARZON on the night of rescue operation. DENR CALABARZON then instructed PENRO Laguna to take over on the said event.
Meanwhile, according to Ms. Kizza S. Candulisas, Vice Chairperson of PENRO Laguna IEC Team, the grass owls were turned over to Laguna Wildlife Park and Rescue Center owned by Dr. Nielsen Donato for intensive care.
Further, DENR CALABARZON encourages the public to continually use social media to report environment related cases. The office will immediately respond through its social media accounts, @denr4aofficial for Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
