DENR CALABARZON to Launch Bamboo Project, Laguna Lake Rehabilitation thru SIAD Strategy

     The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) will be launching its bamboo project and the rehabilitation of Laguna Lake through the Sustainable Integrated Area Development (SIAD) Strategy on April 26, 2017 in Barangay Looc, Calamba City, Laguna.

      The event will be graced by no less than the DENR Secretary, Madam Regina Paz Lopez. It will also be joined by DENR Undersecretaries Marlo Mendoza, Sylvia Ordoñez and Demetrio Ignacio, Jr.; DENR Assistant Secretary Gilbert Gonzales; Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) General Manager Jaime Medina; DENR CALABARZON Director Arsenio Tanchuling, along with the Assistant Regional Directors and Division Chiefs; Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) representative; and CALABARZON Provincial and Community Environment and Natural Resources Officers (PENROs and CENROs).

      The partner civic groups such as Calamba Multi-sectoral Council for Sustainable Development (CALAMBENO), Serbisyong Tama-Kababaihan, Likhang Kamay, Ugnayan ng mga Samahan ng Mamamayan at Mangingisda ng Rizal, Tambuyog Development Center, Diocese of San Pablo, and University of the Philippines Los Baños, are likewise invited to join the event.

     Moreover, the Laguna and Rizal Provincial, Municipal and Barangay local chief executives; the Laguna 2nd District Representative; and other government agencies such as Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), are expected to attend the launching.

       To start the event, a ceremonial planting of 50 bamboo planting materials will be undertaken along the shoreline of the lake. It will be followed by the actual launching of the DENR CALABARZON bamboo project and the rehabilitation of Laguna Lake through the SIAD Strategy. Alongside these activities will be the ceremonial awarding of special patents under the Handog Titulo Program to 10 schools from all over the region.

       The partner People’s Organizations and Local Government Units will be given a chance to relay to Secretary Lopez their responses on the said project and on the other programs of the Department, and submit their project proposals for possible funding under the SIAD. Concerned Laguna women’s group will also be paid due recognition as partner in the development of the lake.

       Laguna Lake, or Laguna de Bay, is one of the 29 priority areas all over the Philippines selected by the Department for the SIAD implementation.

      SIAD, on the other hand, is one of the main development and management strategies adopted by DENR Secretary Lopez, which addresses the various challenges and opportunities in an area through convergence or integrated efforts among different agencies and stakeholders.



CALABARZON Protected Area Stakeholders Gather for their 6th Summit

          100 stakeholders from 19 protected areas in CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) region comprising representatives from various institutions who have direct and indirect stakes to the said protected areas, have come together once again for the 6th annual Regional Protected Area Management Boards (PAMB) Summit from June 28-30, 2017 at Tagaytay Country Hotel, Tagaytay City, Cavite.

          Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) CALABARZON Region Assistant Director, Atty. Arnel Rodriguez said the said Summit aims to inform the protected area stakeholders on the latest status of their respective protected areas; update on the priority programs of the different local government units; through breakout sessions, identify issues and concerns that are halting the development in protected areas; and identify the possible solutions to the said issues and concerns.

        "This summit is not a golf fighting summit. We are doing this so that we could discuss the problems and identify possible solutions to it", said Atty. Rodriguez.
